Dr. Erin Wry
Assistant Research Director, PIRLS Reading
Dr. Erin Wry oversees the development and implementation of the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS). She is responsible for coordinating updates to the PIRLS Reading Assessment Framework; developing new literary and informational texts, items, and online reading tasks; creating scoring guides and training materials for constructed-response items; conducting scoring training for human-scored responses; and managing communication with participating countries. She also helps organize and leads international meetings for PIRLS and coordinates expert reviews and collaboration with the PIRLS Reading Development Group.
Erin earned her Ph.D. in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment (MESA) from Boston College. Her research interests focus on early literacy development and reading assessment. She is particularly interested in understanding cross-cultural differences in reading development and instructional practices, as well as the challenges students face in developing literacy skills in an increasingly digital world.
Erin has been a full-time employee at the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center since 2014. Prior to working on PIRLS development, she contributed to quality assurance for TIMSS & PIRLS in the Survey Operations and Procedures department for TIMSS 2015, PIRLS 2016, and TIMSS 2019.
